Never Spoken to a Grant Officer? NICE 2026 Expo Malaysia Is Free

TL;DR

  • NICE 2026, the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo, runs 26 to 28 August 2026 at KLCC, 9.00am to 5.00pm. Entry is free. MOSTI runs it, MRANTI is the strategic partner.
  • The reason it matters for a grant-curious SME: MOSTI is the ministry most national innovation funding sits under, and MRANTI is one of the agencies implementing its Strategic Research Fund. One floor, no forms filed.
  • It will not approve anything, and business matching is a room of strangers rather than a lead list. Go for answers, not outcomes.
  • The step tonight: register at the MRANTI form, then write down the two or three questions you would ask an agency officer face to face.

You have read three articles about government innovation grants and you still have not spoken to one person who works at the agency behind any of them. The gap is not the paperwork or the eligibility table. It is that nobody has ever answered your plain question in plain words. The NICE 2026 expo in Malaysia closes that gap for three days, for free.

It is the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 26 to 28 August 2026, 9.00am to 5.00pm. MOSTI runs it, MRANTI is the strategic partner, and the Prime Minister officiates. Entry costs nothing.

What is on the NICE 2026 expo Malaysia floor

An exhibition, pitching sessions, pocket talks and business matching. Written out, it reads like every other expo listing.

What is different is who is standing there: agency people, for three days, with nothing else to do. Most of the year, the only way to reach them is an enquiry line or a form that answers in a fortnight.

Why one free floor answers your grant questions

MOSTI is the ministry most national innovation funding sits under, and MRANTI is one of the agencies implementing its Strategic Research Fund. On a normal week, reaching either means an enquiry line and a wait. Here they are under one roof, and you can ask without filing anything.

It also stops you chasing the wrong door. BIG 2.0, the programme that keeps showing up in the news, is not something an ordinary Sdn Bhd applies for directly. GLCs, PLCs and MOF Incorporated companies lead the applications, and startups come in as their partners. Our AI grant Malaysia guide and the Cradle CIP Spark and Sprint comparison cover the ones in your lane.

What the NICE 2026 expo will not do for your business

Plenty of people leave an expo with a tote bag and nothing else.

What a free floor can doWhat it cannot do
Let you ask an agency officer a direct questionApprove, pre-approve or fast-track a grant
Tell you whether your project even fits a programmeReplace the official application process
Show you what other Malaysian companies are commercialisingHand you a qualified sales pipeline
Cost you nothing but timeGuarantee anyone follows up with you

Business matching needs its own warning: a room of strangers with their own agendas, not a curated lead list. Some of those conversations are useful. Most are two people politely finding out they cannot help each other.

Our take: go for one morning with written questions rather than three days with an open diary. We have watched founders lose a week to events like this and come home with contacts they never called. You are collecting answers, and that takes about an hour.

How to spend the morning

  1. Check the agenda on the official site. It only lists the conference stage, so pocket talks, pitching and business matching have no published times.
  2. Walk the booths carrying agency names first, before anything else.
  3. Ask your question, write the answer down there, and get the person's name.
  4. If a booth cannot answer, ask who can.

That last question is worth more than the rest of the hall. Then leave. You came for information, and you have it.

Do not plan three days tonight. Register at form.mranti.my/NICE2026, which commits you to nothing, then write down the two or three questions you would ask if an agency officer sat across from you. If you cannot fill three lines, you are not ready to go, which is useful to learn for free. Confirm the dates and entry terms on nice.mosti.gov.my first.

At Gotchaa Lab we build AI and automation systems for Malaysian businesses, and we spend a fair amount of time telling owners which grants are not worth the paperwork. Talk to us for an honest read on your project.

Programme details and entry terms may change. Verify with MOSTI and MRANTI.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NICE 2026 expo in Malaysia?
NICE 2026 is the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo, held from 26 to 28 August 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, 9.00am to 5.00pm daily. It is organised by MOSTI, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, with MRANTI as strategic partner, and the theme is Mission to Market: Malaysia to the World. The floor carries an exhibition, pitching sessions, pocket talks and business matching. The Prime Minister officiates the event.
Is entry to NICE 2026 free?
Yes. The official site's own button reads REGISTER AS PARTICIPANT ( FREE ENTRY ). Registration for participants goes through the MRANTI form at form.mranti.my/NICE2026. Confirm the dates and the entry terms on nice.mosti.gov.my before you plan your day, since event details can change.
Can you apply for a government grant at NICE 2026?
No. An expo floor is not an application channel and nobody at a booth can approve funding. What the floor gives you is access to people who work at the agencies that run the programmes, so you can ask about eligibility, timing and fit before you spend weeks on a form. Applications still go through each programme's own official process.
Is NICE 2026 worth attending for a small business owner?
It is worth half a day if you have specific questions and nobody to ask them to. It is not worth three days if you are hoping to collect leads. Business matching puts you in a room of strangers with their own agendas, not in front of a pre-qualified buyer list. Treat the trip as research, go with written questions, and leave when they are answered.
