Welcome to the Gotchaa Lab blog. We are a software development company based in Kuala Lumpur, and this is where we write about the things we deal with every day: building software, working with AI, and helping Malaysian businesses figure out the tech side of their operations.
We started this blog because we kept having the same conversations with clients and prospects. Questions like "how much does custom software actually cost in Malaysia?" or "should we build our own system or buy something off the shelf?" or "is AI actually useful for a company our size?" Good questions, but the answers floating around online are almost always written for the US or European market. The pricing is wrong, the tools are different, and the regulatory context does not apply here.
So we decided to write our own answers.
What we cover
There are four areas we keep coming back to:
Software development for Malaysian businesses. We write about tech stacks, development approaches, pricing, and the practical decisions that come up when you are building software in this market. Things like integrating with local payment gateways (Billplz, iPay88, DuitNow), handling bilingual interfaces, and working within Malaysian data protection rules.
AI and automation. Not the hype pieces about AGI replacing everyone. We write about the AI tools and techniques that are actually useful right now for businesses in Malaysia. What works, what does not, and what it costs to implement.
Digital transformation. This phrase gets thrown around a lot, but for most Malaysian SMEs it comes down to specific problems: replacing spreadsheets with proper systems, connecting data across departments, or giving the management team real-time visibility into operations. We write about how to approach these projects practically.
Industry news with local context. When something happens in the tech world, we break down what it actually means for businesses operating in Malaysia. Not every global trend matters here, and the ones that do often play out differently in this market.
